New York (Nov. 1, 2004) – Kuma Reality Games, the company that blends news coverage with interactive game technology to allow players to experience re-creations of real military events, has released their latest mission Najaf: Mahdi Cemetery Battle, a re-creation of the hellish assault in August, 2004 in the Wadi Al Salam graveyard – among the largest cemeteries in the middle east.
Instructed by cleric leader Muqtada al-Sadr to “terrorize the enemy”, the Mahdi Army launched a three week long offensive, ensnaring U.S. Marines and members of the First Cavalry in a nightmarish battle on sacred ground, using one of the world’s holiest shrines for cover. The Mahdi army is a fierce fighting unit - overhead and underground, everywhere it seems, they are well-entrenched, surrounded by brick and mortar walls and in underground crypts and chambers.
In Najaf: Mahdi Cemetery Battle, players will chase teams of well-armed militants through an inherently sinister landscape, navigating the eerie graveyard through miles of headstones that cloak the ferocious enemy. Through the twisted paths and jumbled headstones, players will encounter brutal, sudden combat and intense close-range firefights in their quest to crush the insurgency and bring peace to Iraq.
In addition to the playable mission, this week’s Kuma News Report features Major General Thomas L. Wilkerson, CEO of the United States Naval Institute, and highlights the tactics of the Mahdi Army’s campaign and why Muqtada al-Sadr’s militia is still fighting U.S. and coalition troops. U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Dan Snyder also shares the strategies needed in this nightmarish mission.
